Exploring the Pacific Northwest Landscape

Crystal Springs, Near Stampede Pass

Crystal Springs, Near Stampede Pass

South of Kachess Lake but along the same freeway exit is Crystal Springs and Stampede Pass, a favorite Sno-Park of ATV aficionados.

The snow is several feet deep, and difficult to cross on foot. Without snow shoes I kept breaking through the surface once I’d left the over-sized parking area. What we like to call “Cascade Concrete” seems to be losing its hold as the season wears on.

Straddling the pass, just slightly to the east, nearing the desert, the park is sheltered a bit from the worst of the elements. While there is clearly still a good storm, it appears to hug the ground - which is close to 2,500 feet - which opens up more blue sky than I’d seen all day.
