Unnamed Waterfall on Talapus Lake Road

One of countless waterfalls in the backcountry near I-90, this takes its source at Olallie Lake, eventually flowing out to the Pacific Ocean by way of Puget Sound. Like many streams and falls, this one dries to a trickle in the hot summer, but rushes in the winter and spring when the sun melts snow, turning the whole area into a giant source.

Although some would complain that the region is too lush, and it certainly rains more than the wildest imagination could predict, falls like this give rise to life in the mountains and the lowlands below. Water is the one thing differentiating us from the great expanse of desert sitting to the east, between the Cascades and Rockies.

  1. That’s really pretty how the path gets darker and darker like a fairy tale. Where are Hansel and Gretel?
