Forest Approaching Talapus Lake

The sun already sets all too early in the winter, but the mountains block its sight an hour or more before a flat horizon would. Here, deep into the woods, the last embers of the day shine through the trees, rarely making it to the forest floor. This allows snow to accumulate, melting only in a few places, letting gravity carry the water downward to sea.
