Exploring the Pacific Northwest Landscape

Blue Sky Over the Royal Enterprise

Blue Sky Over the Royal Enterprise

I’ve been doing a lot of kayaking lately, renting a boat near the southern edge of the lake and fanning out to explore. I’m trying to get in shape to visit the San Juan islands, ideally to catch some orcas - killer whales - “on film.”

Using a camera from a kayak is a nerve wracking feat. The boat drifts, the wake can stir up quickly, and heavy electronics don’t tolerate deep water. To a lesser extent, the paddle is also critical; I’m using my “leash” to hold the camera bag to the kayak, and folding the paddle under a bungee cord on the boat. The other photos on this page are either at a narrower angle, or pointed more upwards, not to show this.

In the top right corner is our idea of a beautiful spring day … soon to be invaded by rain.

  1. Such a cool picture! I used to work in the fishing industry up in Maine a long time ago. Thanks for stirring up some old memories.
