Exploring the Pacific Northwest Landscape

Auditorium, Cascade Locks Dam

Auditorium, Cascade Locks Dam

The Army Corps of Engineers built and maintain a hydro-electric dam along the Columbia River. In the middle of a national scenic area, there’s a visitor center which not only gives tours of salmon ladders, and explains the history of hydro electric power. At the same time, the Columbia is a working river, and security is tighter than you might expect on a vacation. To reach the visitor center, an armed guard first makes sure there’s nothing in your trunk that shouldn’t be there.
