Exploring the Pacific Northwest Landscape

Snowy Pond in front of Snoqualmie Ridge

Snowy Pond in front of Snoqualmie Ridge

Looking down from a vantage point 4,888 feet above sea level, the pond from the reflection photo shows up once again. Here we can see how much snow is surrounding it, melting in the November sun, and draining to the Pacific Ocean below. Off in the distance is a slight hint of Keechelus Lake, the vast reservoir next to I-90.

In the background, Snoqualmie Ridge climbs up out of the eastern desert, cloaked in green with fresh snowy highlights. As I write this, on December 29, 2009, conditions have changed drastically. The mountains in the background are covered thoroughly in snow, and beginning to pose a danger of avalanches.

For an alternate, less photogenic view, here is a photo shot lower on the mountain, but from the same eastern face of the mountain.
